NJ Fishing Report: May 23-30

Right now it is prime time to catch multiple species of fish on any given trip with good catches of Sea Bass, Striped Bass, Bluefish, and Fluke starting to show as well, all within a few miles of each other. Most have been able to find early limits of quality Sea Bass and will be able to continue to do so until June 19th and Striped Bass fishing in the ocean has been excellent this past week with many charters being able to run dual purpose Seabass/Striped bass trips on the good days!

 North Jersey:

Fisher Price IV  Atlantic Highlands, NJ :

Captain Derek Bielitz  “Bass fishing has been very good this week with most trips seeing an average of 12-20 fish per trip up to 38lbs. All the fish are being caught on chunked bunker and a few on live. We will start doing more live lining next week if conditions allow. We still have a few available openings in June, so if anyone is interested in getting in on the striped bass fishing, give us a call at 732-861-3394 or email Captderek1@yahoo.com.”

Captain Brian Williams “Flounder fishing has been fun with some days better then others depending on conditions. The backbays were covered in snot grass most of the week, but appears to be improving now. Biggest fish of the week came in at 22”, and most of the flounder have primarily been feeding on grass shrimp, crabs, and small spearing.   Striped bass fishing has taken a turn toward early morning  and evening / nighttime with an increase in water temps, this increase has also caused the topwater bass bite to improve making for some explosive strikes and awesome visuals. ( 70 flats and bays, 59 ocean). To book a trip call/email Captain Brian 856-371-4346 or Bwilliams@ocnjfishing

Captain Scott Newhall  “Greater Atlantic City waters has cow striped bass moving along the beaches and the three mile line. Live lining, Tony Maja bunker spoons and Bluewater Candy Mojos are the ticket.  The further north one gets, the better chance at the bass.  Fluke overall have been a disappointment thus far in this region.  Very few, extremely skilled experts have put up some good catches only to go back on the next trip and get blanked. The grass is bad and the consistency is lacking in this area.  Everyone is hoping for it to pick up and get as strong as it iin many a May.  For those that like wreck fishing, seabass have been chewing hard and with keepers aplenty.”  To book a charter or check availability with Captain Scott call 609-385-3729 timeout1
